TAFE NSW Awards Diploma Qualification to GSTA Trainers

(Manila, the Philippines, 15 November, 2011).  Eight trainers of Genting-Star Tourism Academy (GSTA) were awarded Diploma in Hospitality Management qualifications by The Technical and Further Education-New South Wales (TAFE NSW), Australia’s largest Registered Training Organization (RTO), through  South Western Sydney Institute (SWSI) as educational partner.

Ms Christine Williamson, Faculty Director of Tourism, Hospitality, Primary Industry and Arts of SWSI awarded the certificates to the trainers after they have successfully passed their competency conversations, complied with all gap training and assessment requirements, and supplied necessary evidence of competence, including their intensive exposure and experience in local and international hospitality settings. 

“GSTA Manila is the first training school in the Philippines that TAFE has partnered with in order to deliver a spectrum of Diploma in Hospitality Management qualifications in different streams such as Food and Beverage, Commercial Cookery, Front Line and Accommodation Services.  It is also the first academy whose many trainers received diploma qualifications from TAFE through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) after they have met all the skills and trade requirements,” Ms. Williamson said.  

Ms Andrea Chan, Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning, Genting Hong Kong, added that partnering with TAFE and offering Diploma in Hospitality qualifications are part of GSTA’s ongoing initiative to bring the academy to the next level of curricular development. The partnership officially commenced in March this year with the signing of the Educational Cooperation Agreement between GSTA and TAFE NSW- SWSI.

“These initiatives reflect GSTA’s long-held mission to create a strong and well-trained faculty that will competently deliver competency-based training under the Genting brand of education. We look forward to continuously contributing to the growth of the Philippines’ hospitality talent,” MsChan affirmed.
